ARTHUR: Maureen Jean (Lobban). It is with great sorrow that we announced the passing of our mother Maureen Jean Arthur on March 28, 2011 at the age of 86 years at Hamiota Health Centre. Maureen was born to Scottish immigrants: Alexander and Margaret (Sim) Lobban on March 11, 1925 in Hamiota. She spent her early years on the farm in the Scotia district and attended school in Oakner and Hamiota. The family moved to a farm in the Hamiota district in 1938. On April 2, 1955 Maureen married Philip George Arthur and they began farming in Oakner. Maureen enjoyed her days on the farm always busy with raising a family, gardening, baking, knitting, sewing, tending to the cows and chickens and visiting with their neighbours. In 1982, Philip and Maureen retired from the farm to Hamiota. In the last few years Maureen became confined to a wheelchair, but still kept busy by knitting mittens and afghans, doing crossword puzzles, and sharing stories of the past with family and friends. Maureen was predeceased by her parents, husband Philip in 2000 and her brother Ian in 1996. She is survived by daughters Sandra, Donna (Maurice Fayant) and Cathy; grandchildren Steven Hutchison and Ashley Hutchison and great-grandchildren Kiara and Abby Wilts. In keeping with Maureen's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service was held May 14, 2011 at Hamiota cemetery, with Rev. Barbara Rediker officiating. Arrangements were with Campbell's Funeral Home in Hamiota.
