McKEE: Allan Gordon, June 4, 1920 - March 22, 2011. Allan was born at home, 19-13-16W, to John and Susan (Allan) McKee, he was the second of six children. His education was taken at Glenburney School until grade eight. He then stayed home and farmed with his Dad and brothers. He joined the army in 1941 and served until 1946 with the RCASC. He served in England, Italy and the Netherlands. When Allan returned from the war he was able to purchase his own farm in 1947. In the fall of 1947 a new teacher started at Glenburney School. On October 10, 1949 Evelyn Chambers and Allan were married in the United Church in Kenville, Manitoba. Allan was active in the Cordova Branch of the Canadian Legion until that branch closed. He then joined the Neepawa Legion. The Legion was an important part of Allans life he was a proud member since 1949. Allan was the Clubroom Chairperson for many years and was often seen, tools in hand, fixing and repairing. He was also honoured with a life membership in 1991. Allan was involved in many community activities when he lived in the Brookdale district. He was a Leader of the Cordova and Mentmore 4-H Beef Clubs when Brian and Lorne were members. He took his turn as chauffer to skating and curling rinks. He served as Counsellor for the RM of Langford for one term. Allan was a quiet man and his focus was the farm and his family. His community involvement did not lessen when he and Evelyn moved to Neepawa in 1979. Allan loved to curl and watch curling, he attended many Neepawa Cubs and Neepawa Farmers baseball games. He always enjoyed watching hockey at the Yellowhead Center when he could. Allan was recruited into the Elks organization and spent many nights helping at Bingo. Allan also found new employment in Neepawa, he worked as the caretaker of the Presbyterian Church for nearly thirty years. When Allan and Evelyn left the farm, they had more time to travel and see more of Canada and parts of the United States. They were also able to go to New Zealand to visit Marlene and her family. They enjoyed going to ball games in Minneapolis and on day trips to visit family and friends or just to see the country side. Allan was predeceased by his parents, his older brother Robert and wife Margaret; his brother Mervin; his sister Verla and husband John Kaston; his sister Loretta and husband Orville Hume; his brother Wilson. He was also predeceased by his brother- in-law George Chambers and wife Marjorie; his sister-in-law Isobel Kolesar and husband Fred and sister-in-law Florence Irvine. Allan is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Evelyn; son Brian, wife Leslee (Sheardown), their children Julia (Nathan) Fleck and Jarret; daughter Myrna, husband Douglas Pachal, their children Taryn and Karleen; daughter Diane, husband David Shepherd, their children Norah and Sarah (Jonathon) Alle; daughter Marlene, her husband Ken Hawke, their children Lorne and Ellen; son Lorne his wife Kim (Van Buskirk), their children Brett and Haley; Great-Grandchildren Jackson and Brooklen Thomas, Morgan and Edie Fleck (born April 19, 2011). He is also survived by his sister-in-law Pat McKee and brother-in-law Charlie Irvine, and numerous nieces and nephews. Allan was a proud and supportive Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. The funeral service was held March 28, 2011 in the Neepawa United Church with Reverend Mark Satterly officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Thank you to Whites Funeral Home, Brian James, for their care and compassion. Thank you to Neepawa United Church and the UCW for a wonderful service and lunch.
