OAKEY: Sherry Lynn Oakey (nee Wiebe) passed away at the Neepawa Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer on June 20th, 2011, with family by her side. Sherry was born on March 16th, 1966 in Rivers Manitoba to Abraham and Sarah Wiebe. She grew up in the town of Rivers and was one of six children. She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping. Throughout her childhood she was a very active child and had a love for sports; soccer, baseball and track being her favourites. She always took care of her siblings and was often found helping her mother around the house and yard. In 1986, she married David Oakey, after the birth of her daughter Alisa, and resided in Rivers. Making a beautiful home was a priority for Sherry and she took great pride in her house and yard. Gardening was a true love that she has carried throughout her lifetime. In 2001, she started a new chapter in her life, meeting her partner Kevin Salter and moving to Neepawa. They were a great team who enjoyed an active lifestyle which included motor biking, quadding, sledding and back road driving. Sherry cared about everyone that came into her life and was a natural caregiver. She was a strong, passionate and hardworking individual that will be in our hearts forever. Sherry truly held the saying “LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH” to its highest meaning. Living every day to its fullest, Loving all those around her and Laughing with anyone that would share in her humour. She was predeceased by her dad Abraham Wiebe; grandparents John and Susanne Wiebe; aunts Martha and Nettie; uncle John and Margaret Salter. She has left to mourn her loving partner Kevin Salter; her mother Sarah Wiebe; her daughter Alisa Oakey; her adopt-a-son Devin Tibbett; Kevin’s father, Milbert Salter; her sisters Susanne Dubois, Sally (Bill) Stewart, Abby Murray and Sandra (Glen) Thomson; her brother Richard (Diana); her nieces and nephews Steven Dubois, Alex Stewart, Ryan and Ashley Murray, Cassandra, William and Braden Thomson, Brittany, Curtis and Riley Wiebe; her aunts Mary Klassen, Susan (Gordon) Frederick and Denise (Amos) Knutt and Diane (Nizam) Ali as well as many more cousins and relatives.
