OMILANOW: Kathryn Grace Omilanow (nee Niles) passed away on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Kathryn was born on February 13, 1957 and was raised in Brandon. She spent a lot of time in her early years at the Central Community Centre. Kathryn attended school at Central School, Brandon Collegiate and graduated from Crocus Plains High School. After graduating from high school, Kathryn chose to further her education by taking a legal secretary course at Assiniboine Community College and later went on to work for Meighen Haddad Law Firm until the time of her passing. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Wheat City Diesel, 4K Ventures Ltd. and Kingsway Kort Ltd. In 1985, Ken Omilanow married his best friend, Kathryn. Their son Kyle was born in 1989 and daughter Kayla in 1991. Kathryn was always interested in her family and ready to lend a helping hand. Her greatest achievement in life was her two children; she never missed any of their events. Kathryn loved to go camping at Clear Lake, Rivers or Sandy Lake. Ken and Kathryn celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary last year. At that time they travelled to Niagara Falls. They also enjoyed taking a few winter vacations. During the winter, Kathryn liked to watch curling on T.V. and was a big fan of Kerry Burtnyk and Jeff Stoughton. Kathryn is survived by her husband Ken; son Kyle and daughter Kayla. She is also survived by her sisters: Karen (Randy) Jay and Kelly (Scott) Third as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathryn was predeceased by her father Edward Rudolph Niles; mother Gwendolyn Marie Niles; father-in-law Kenneth Walter Omilanow and nephew Ryan Richard Roy. The Ceremony to Celebrate Kathryn's Life was held at Central United Church, on Thursday, June 16, 2011. Rev Orton Anderson officiated. All those in attendance were considered honourary pallbearers. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Kathryn may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 4B - 457 9th St. Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 1K2.
