McKINNON: Garnet Duffield "Duffy", beloved husband and best friend of Margaret, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, June 30, 2011. Duffy was born in Kenton, October 19, 1927 and at an early age moved with his family to Brandon where he completed his education. He then went to work for the Manitoba Telephone System and remained for 40 years. Duffy took great pride in his work and rose through the ranks achieving a management position. Duffy met Marg at the Telephone System and they were married on May 14, 1955. They spent most of their life in Brandon with the exception of nine years (1966-1975) in Selkirk. In their younger years they enjoyed bowling, curling, skating, square dancing and following the Wheat Kings. They enjoyed their cabin at Clear Lake in the summers and usually took holidays in the spring or fall, east one year, west the next, to visit family. They both retired from the Manitoba Telephone System in May 1985, at which time they took up bus touring. They travelled across Canada several times including Newfoundland, and in every State, including Alaska and Hawaii twice. In 1995, they took their "Dream Trip to the British Isles". A tour first of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales (22 days) then they stayed over to visit with Marg's relatives and her pen pal with whom she had been corresponding since she was 16. Duffy is survived by his wife Margaret; sister, Darlene; sister-in-law, Corinne and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew "Darky" McKinnon and Maude Pettigrew; brothers: Norm, Doug and Gordon. Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 401 - 1st Street on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Dolloff officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church Building Fund, 401 - 1st Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2W8 or Westman Dreams For Kids Foundation, Unit 202 - 3711th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4J2.
