SCOTT: 1961 – 2011. Surrounded by family and love, Callum Scott passed away on Monday, July 11th, 2011. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Lorna; his son, Jamie; his daughter, Vanessa and her husband, Stuart; special grandson, Cade Bonneville. He will also be deeply missed by his parents, Mary and Walter Scott; his brothers, Alan and his wife, Dorothy, and Glenn and his wife, Linda; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Val and Ray Leronowich, Karen and Brent McEachen and Gerald and Erika Bodnaruk. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Callum was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Nana and Dide Morrison; and his father-in-law, Oscar Bodnaruk. Callum was born on January 14th, 1961 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He spent his first seven years living in Scotland and England before moving to Canada with his family. Callum attended elementary school in Loughborough, England, New Pitsligo, Scotland, Regina, Saskatchewan, and after moving to Brandon, he attended Fleming Elementary School, Earl Oxford Junior High, Neelin High School and Assiniboine Community College. Callum was an avid athlete and excelled at baseball, hockey, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and golf. He was born a leader and took his responsibility seriously whenever he was named captain of a team, which happened often! In 1979, he married his high school sweetheart, Lorna, and they were overjoyed with the births of Jamie in 1980 and Vanessa in 1982; and words cannot describe his excitement at the birth of his grandson, Cade in 2009. Callum carried his leadership qualities into both work and volunteer life. He started his 28-year career in media advertising in 1981 at the Brandon Sun. In 1986, he moved on to TV sales at CKX-TV for 3 years, returning to the Brandon Sun in the positions of Sales Rep, Commercial Print Manager, Classified Sales Supervisor and Advertising Director. In 2001, Callum moved to the position of Ad Director at the Medicine Hat News, at the Red Deer Advocate (2005-2007), and the Saskatoon Star Phoenix from 2007 until his illness meant he was no longer able to work. Always on the lookout for new ideas, he was known for seeking out newspapers wherever he travelled. Callum enjoyed community sports and community service. He played and was Secretary Treasurer of the Brandon Senior Soccer League and managed Jamie's Atom and Midget "AAA" hockey teams. He joined the Masonic family at Fenwick Lodge #158 in Brandon where he was Past Master and served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 7th Masonic District. He was a member of Valley of Scottish Rite and Brandon and District Shrine Club and the Sunrise Rotary Club in Medicine Hat. He volunteered on organizing committees for various golf tournaments including Optimist Youth Golf Tournament in Brandon and the Energy Services Invitational in Medicine Hat. Callum's greatest and fondest moments were spent with his family. He loved spending time at the hockey rink with Jamie, and never missed seeing Vanessa at a dance recital or festival. Extra special memories were caddying for Jamie at the Canadian Amateur Golf Championship and presenting Vanessa with her gavel when she was installed as Honored Queen. He enjoyed sharing his love of golf with many family members. He knew his hole-in-one was special, but said he was more excited to see Lorna get her hole-in-one. A special memory for him is the rounds played at the Fraserburgh Golf Club in Scotland and the trip with his family to Carnoustie Golf Links and the Old Course at St. Andrews. Callum and Lorna were dedicated very much to each other and were truly best friends. They enjoyed travelling together and shared many wonderful memories of Mexico, Scotland, Ireland and Dominican Republic. Callum was very much a family man and his values of honesty, unconditional love and support will live on through his children and family. He was ecstatic to be a Grandad and was especially grateful for time spent with grandson, Cade, the ray of sunshine in his life. Callum had impact on the lives of everyone he met, especially his wife, children, grandson, and even though he left us too early, we treasure every moment with him. To honour his memory Callum asks that you use the love and happiness in your heart to care for others to make the world a better place to live. “Play it where it lies” We would like to thank Dr. Haider, Saskatoon Cancer Clinic, and Dr. Mettle for their wonderful care of Callum during his illness. Thank you to Dr. Sid Harrison, Dr. Josh Foley, the Palliative Care Outreach Team and the wonderful staff on the Palliative Care Unit at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.
