FULTON: After a courageous battle with cancer Eric (Rick) Bain of Birtle, Manitoba, beloved husband of Carla and loving father to Jill and Tim (Brittany) passed away on June 21, 2011 at the age of 61 years at the Russell District Hospital. Rick was born Sept. 19, 1949 the third child of Harvey and Millie (Green). In his childhood years Rick was active in 4H beef club, United Church activities, Cubs and sports. After graduating from Birtle Collegiate in 1967 he attended the University of Manitoba and graduated in 1971 with his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He returned to Birtle to farm with his father and brother Ken. In January 1973 he met Carla McDole the love of his life at a bonspiel in Foxwarren and they were married on July 13, 1974 in Elgin, Manitoba. Rick enjoyed curling, serving on the Board of Directors of the Birtle Curling Club and also as draw master for many bonspiels. He also served on the Recreation Commission, Ministry and Personal committee of the United Church, Manitoba Pool committee and sub-district council acting as secretary for 21 years. He was a devoted husband and father supporting his children in all their activities. In 1998 Rick and Tim co-chaired the safe grad committee working together as Rick tried to teach his son the art of negotiating. In the end a fun and successful safe grad was enjoyed by all. In 2001 they once again joined forces to reorganize the Birtle Bruins Senior hockey team with Rick acting as manager and Tim team captain. In their first year back in the NCHL they were runners up in the league and won Gold in Provincial C playdowns. In 2002/2003 they won Silver in Provincial B and in 2003/2004 won Gold in Provincial C. Rick was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Millie, brother Gary & in-laws Bert and Dorothy McDole. Left to cherish his memory are wife Carla, children Jill and Tim (Brittany), grand-dog Cleaver, sister Terry Fulton, brother Ken (Lucille) sister-in-law Janie (Tom) Breneman, brother- in-law Jim McDole, nieces and nephews Darcy (Phil), Andrea (Dave), Mark (Melanie) Tara (Todd), Crystal (Matt) Jamie, Chris, Jodie (Jon) and Kara (Mike) Aunts: Marion Fulton, Peggy Fulton and Olive Perry. A celebration of life was held on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Birtle United Church with Rev. Heather Robbins officiating. Interment was in the Birtle Cemetery. We will forever keep precious our memories of the love, laughter and tears that we shared.
