PACKETT: Daisy Packett, nee Taylor, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the age of 98 years, 4 months, at Valleyview Care Centre, with her family at her side. Daisy, a lifelong resident of Brandon, grew up in the east end with 3 brothers, Bill, John, Roy and 2 sisters, Dorothy Farthing and ElsieTaylor. She learned shorthand and typing but worked in the kitchen of the Brandon Mental Health Centre until she married Albert Victor Packett in July, 1940 and welcomed daughter, Arlene in May, 1941. They moved to Franklin Street in 1942 where they welcomed another daughter Karen in July, 1944. Daisy lived in her home until August 2007 when she moved to Parkview Seniors Apartments and then to Valleyview in December 2009. Her life revolved around her family and her church. She loved baking for her extended family and was always sending care packages that included the best butter tarts. She also had a garden all her life although in later years the rows became farther and farther apart. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, husband Albert in April, 1980 and her daughter Arlene in Nov, 2002. She is survived by her daughter Karen Sherman and her family, husband Ray, son Richard, wife Erin and daughter Cassidy Rae, son Adrian and wife Laura, sonGreg, wife Rose and son Martin, all of Edmonton, her son-in-law, Robert Fenn, wife Betty of Stoughton, Saskatchewan, and his family, son Robin (Richmond, B.C.) and wife Catherine, sons Samuel, Jonathon and daughter, Anna, Darwin (Stoughton, Saskatchewan) and wife Shannon, sons Jonas and Nathanial, Dennice Rouse (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) and husband John, sons Dustin and Codie, Brenda Fleming (Brandon, Manitoba) and husband Ron, daughter Jesse and son Luke as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Kathy Crocker, Dorothy Johnson (Barry), Bob Taylor (Connie) and Gerry Taylor (Rita). She will always be remembered by special friends Marsha and Aubrey Hardinge and Ann Reid as well as all her church friends at Calvary Temple of which she was a foundingmember. A graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Jennings of CalvaryTemple officiating. Reception will follow at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North. Friends who desire may make a memorial donation in memory of Daisy to the Calvary Temple Benevolent Fund, c/o Calvary Temple, 620 - 34th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7B 2R5, or to a charity of choice.
