McBURNEY: Howard Russell, beloved husband of Gloria and dear father of Leisa (Terry) Halloran and son, Sean (Jordan LaRoche) and papa to Abigail Halloran passed away peacefully on August 4, 2011 in the Brandon Hospital with his family by his side. He was born to Russell and May (Buckley) McBurney of Glenwood Souris District Manitoba July 26, 1930. Howard received his schooling at Forbes and Souris schools and Brandon Agricultural College before he returned to his parents farm. In 1966 he married Gloria Knight of Erikson, together they had a very successful Thoroughbred-breeding farm. Along with his passion for horses, Howard collected antiques and worked with leather, carving many belts and wallets and repairing many a bridle. In 1997 Fairlane Farm was sold and they moved to Souris. Howard was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Les of Burnaby, BC and sister, Eileen of Edmonton, Alberta. He is survived by his wife ,Gloria; daughter, Leisa (Terry) and Abigail (granddaughter) Halloran, of Boissevain; son, Sean (Jordan) of Arlington, WA; his brother Keith (Gwen Bomford) and family of Cobbelhill, BC, nieces Kim and Heather Mills, Edmonton, Alta and sister in law, Lil (McKenzie) and family of Burnaby, B.C. Memorial service was held at St. Pauls United Church, Souris on August 9, 2011 with Rev. Wendy Rankin officiating and Kim giving the eulogy. Interment was in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Brandon. Kowalchuks Funeral Home of Souris was in charge of arrangements. In Howards memory donations may be made to the Souris Hospital Palliative Care, c/o ARHA, Box 10, Souris, Manitoba, R0K2C0.
