WORTHINGTON: (Hanula), Gladys. The family wishes to announce the sudden passing of Gladys on August 11, 2011, at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Gladys was born September 6, 1928 in Brandon. She was predeceased by her loving husband Frank, parents John and Mary, sister Olga and brother Walter. She is survived by her sister Stella Hanula, Toronto; brothers-in-law Stan and Percy Worthington, (Vancouver and Winnipeg); nephews John (Patricia) Nearing, Scarboro; George (Sharon) Nearing, Sault Ste. Marie, Mark (Regina) Worthington, Australia; nieces Teri (Kevin) Worthington Coombs, Toronto and Tanya (Bob) Worthington-Mitchell, Carman, as well as her great nieces Mikila and Alexa Mitchell. Aunt Gladys was very involved in her community and donated her time tirelessly. In addition to volunteering at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (singing both in the choir and acting as treasurer), she gave her time to the Brandon YWCA (winning the Woman of Distinction Award in 1987), The Royal Purple of Canada (National President 1963/64) as well as the Brandon Royal Purple both at a District and Provincial Level. In the past she was President of the Manitoba Organization of Business and Professional Women and President of the Brandon Branch UWAC. Her latest accomplishment was being one of the founding members of the Womens Resource Centre in Brandon where she still served on the Board of Directors. We will all miss her (and her great cooking!!) Funeral Services were held Tuesday August 16, 2011 with Rev. Fr. Michael Skrumeda officiating. The Ladies of the Royal Purple also gave a tribute to Aunt Gladys at the service. Interment was at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to The Womens Resource Centre, 800 Rosser Avenue, Brandon.
