CHURCH: Dorothy Jean Church, June 28, 1940 – August 21, 2011. On August 21st, 2011, Dot Church passed away peacefully with her daughter, Melody, by her side. Dot was born to Albert and Julia Blandford in the District of Tullymet in Saskatchewan. The family lived in and around Ituna, SK for many years, but settled in Minitonas, MB in 1949. Dot began her work career at the tender age of 14 as a nanny. Nanny positions were interspersed with waitressing jobs and, most notably, at 16, a position cleaning at the Ninette Sanitarium. She married Melvin Church on May 20th, 1961, and they lived in Swan River, MB until their separation in 1982. They had two daughters. She taught her girls to work hard and be independent, but to also be loving and dependable to others. After the separation, Dot moved to Brandon, MB and made her career as Head Housekeeper, working over twenty years for Bill and Donna McTavish at both the City Centre and Beaubier Hotels. Her varied and successful work career also included the management of the Twilight and Eastview Motels, Head Housekeeper at the Westwood Inn, and team leader for Avon, all in Swan River. After retirement, she expended her endless energy on her apartment, family and friends. Many hours were spent playing Scrabble and Aggravation, but not until after the decorating was done and the house was sparkling! These were her joys in life and she was our joy to love. Dot was predeceased by: her parents, Albert and Julia; her brothers Robert, William, Henry and Gordon; her husband, Melvin and her son, Charles Albert. Left to mourn are: her daughters Melody (Leslie) and Lila (Aaron); her grandchildren Cassandra (Charles), Colby (Melissa), Josiah, Ebony and Laurie; and her great-granddaughters Mikayla and Lyric. The memorial service will take place at Manitoba Metis Federation Hall, 656 Sixth Street, Brandon, MB, Saturday, August 27th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.
