BUECKERT: 1929 - 2011. Sackville, NB - Peter Bueckert died peacefully at his home in Sackville, NB during the morning of September 5, 2011. He was 82 years old. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughter Dorothy (Dodie) Perkin and her husband John, his son Robert and his wife Donna, and the joys of his later life, his grandchildren Wray, Joanna, Owen and Logan. His brother Hank and his sisters Sue and Agnes, and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his brothers Carl and Frank. Peter did a lot of different things during his life, but ultimately his call to ministry in the Canadian Baptist denomination was where he found his niche. He was a sincere and caring pastor, serving inner city, country and city congregations from Quebec to British Columbia. He continued to be involved in church leadership as long as he was able during his retirement. He loved the outdoors, and participated passionately in camping ministries in western Canada. Peter genuinely loved every person in his congregations, no matter how unlovely they were to others. He worked hard to create a sense of community in his churches and in his life, welcoming people into his office, his home and his life. One of the greatest sources of joy for Peter was children. As a father and grandfather, he was always quiet and patient. He always had time for children, his own as well as others, no matter what else he had to do. He loved his grandchildren and relished watching them grow and develop. One of the enduring images of Peter is of him flying down the ice playing shinny with a pack of kids skating madly behind him. If there was a choice between discussions with adults or hanging out with kids, Peter always chose the kids. Peter lovingly created beautifully finished furniture for his family, and designed and built two homes with his own hands. He saw beauty where others didn’t, in objects and in people. He was a gentle, kind man, shaped by poverty and simple living during his childhood, and by his Mennonite heritage of non-violence which influenced how he interacted with other people. He genuinely lived his Christian faith, never asking for much, but always giving a great deal. Cremation has taken place under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St, Sackville (364-1300). Family and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2011 from the Mount Allison University Chapel at 7 p.m, Rev. John Perkin officiating. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Peter may do so to the Canadian Baptist Ministries - The Sharing Way (Relief and Development Fund) or The Canadian Foodgrains Bank.www.jonesfuneralhome.ca
