MACSON: Lyle James Macson. Lyle was born at Brandon General Hospital to Mary and John Macson on May 1, 1933. Educated in the Brandon public school system, Lyle started his career at Laird, Sprague and Company (Meyers, Norris, Penny, and Co.) later joining the Brandon Daily Sun, owned by the Whitehead Family, in the accounting department in 1954. Soon Lyle was appointed Business Manager, then Comptroller and ultimately Vice President in charge of Finance, a position he held until the company’s sale in 1987. During this time, he and long-time friend Frank Scherer became owners of the Wallingford Press Company in Winnipeg. Lyle was a silent partner in this venture. In 1958, Lyle married Beverley McRae of Carberry, Manitoba. Beverley and two children survive him: Lynda (Grant) Matchullis of Manitou, Manitoba, and Bradley (Sherri) Macson of Calgary, Alberta. Lyle is also survived by four beloved grandchildren: Daniel Matchullis of Winnipeg, Jaclyn Matchullis of Brandon and Ethan and Aiden Macson of Calgary. Lyle loved Brandon and all that this prairie city stood for. He belonged to many organizations and sat on various boards. Those closest to his heart were the Kinsmen, K-40, and St. Matthew’s Cathedral. Who Lyle became was shaped by these experiences and the many friendships that resulted. A service to celebrate Lyle’s life was held at St. Matthew’s Cathedral on Saturday, September 3, 2011. Dean Robin Walker officiated, aided by Bishop James Njegovan and the Venerable Paul Curtis. Final resting place is the Columbarium in the Cathedral. If so desired, donations may be made in Lyle’s memory to the charity of your choice.
