VANMACKELBERGH: Lorne VanMackelbergh, December 18, 1929 - January 7, 2012. Lorne was born on the family farm in the Bidford district near Deloraine, Manitoba. He is the eldest son of predeceased parents Octive and Harriett VanMackelbergh, twin to Sister Laura and eldest of 9 other siblings. A passion for farming was developed at an early age for Lorne at the family homestead, his love for farming continued while he resided with the Arnold family at the Harvey farm site. The desire to farm never left his heart. At the age of 16 Lorne moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba to work in the Forestry Industry and sent his wages back home to help out the family. Being a man of many trades Lorne continued on to Manitoba Hydro, Robinson Electrical and Television Repair and Installation, maintenance at the BranDelWin Lodge and caretaker of the DelWin Cemetery. In 1948 Lorne met Doris Johnson who had moved from Regent to Deloriane for employment. They were later married on April 9th, 1949 at the Boissevain United church in a double wedding with Dave & Enie Nickles. Later that year Lorne & Doris were blessed with one son, Wayne Lorne VanMackelbergh. Lorne had a passion for family, friends, golf, curling, hunting,fishing and a general love for the outdoors. Among many of his volunteer services he received acknowledgment from the Governor General for 25 years of service with the Deloraine Volunteer Fire Department, he continued on to 35 years of service with them. Some of the other volunteer commitments Lorne participated in included Boy Scouts Canada, Auxiliary member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Manitoba Wildlife Association. Lorne was pre-deceased by the love of his life for 51 years, Doris. Lorne leaves to mourn son Wayne & daughter-in-law Evelyn, grandchildren Ken & Kerri, great grandchildren Zane and Nova and step-grandson Greg. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the BrenDelWin Lodge or the Alzheimers Society. Graveside Service will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the DelWin Cemetery, Deloraine, Manitoba at 2:00 p.m. Luncheon will follow at the Mountview Centre, Deloraine, Manitoba.Condolences may be made only at wheatlandfs@mts.netSmith Funeral home in care of arrangements.
