HORN: James (Jim) Albert Horn born April 30th, 1932 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan died peacefully at home in Minnedosa, MB on January 16th, 2012. Saddened by his passing and forever cherishing his memory are his four daughters, Lori (Bruce) McNabb of Minnedosa, MB, Brenda (Rick Hurley) Wales of Winnipeg, MB, Marla Horn of Lethbridge, AB and Dawna (Lloyd) White of Kenora, ON and their mother, Eunice Horn of Minnedosa, MB. Also left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his beloved grandchildren, Leslie and Brett McNabb, Jenna and Trent Wales, A.J. and Mack White, and his sister Shirley McIntosh of Calgary (who lovingly called him "Hamish" his whole life), his sisters-in-law Monika Horn, Margaret Diehl, Norma McKie, Glenora Hamilton and brother-in- law Ray Hamilton, and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents Alberta and Russell Horn of Saskatoon, brothers Norm and Ed Horn, mother and father-in-law Mabel and Lewis Kilmury, and brothers-in-law Alden Diehl, Hugh McKie and Elliott Kilmury.Dad had a full and active life, starting with his lifelong love of sports. He was a swimmer, played hockey, football and rugby as a young man and excelled at them all, winning many medals, trophies and ribbons in swimming. His accomplishments earned him a place in the Saskatchewan Aquatic Hall of Fame. His City Park High School also won the Provincial Football Championship, earning him an invitation to try out with his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders, which he declined due to entering the RCMP. Later on, he was a long distance runner, golfer, curler, loved to fish and hunt and was a lifelong member of the Lions Club. He had many happy memories of time spent doing these activities with his friends and family. Dad's professional accomplishments were many. He joined the RCMP in 1951 and for 28 years was stationed all over Manitoba in Manitou, Virden, Brandon, Boissevain, Killarney, Minnedosa, The Pas and finally Winnipeg where he retired in 1979 after serving as the NCO in charge of the General Investigative Service. After retirement, Dad and Mom moved back to Minnedosa where Dad worked for the City of Brandon as their Safety Officer. He retired permanently in 1995. He was a wonderful Dad and Grampie, spending lots of time with his family. He taught us all how to swim, skate, fish, golf, curl and ride our bikes. He attended many recitals, band concerts, and hockey games. Of course, with four girls he had his share of chaos, tears and car accidents too! If you can remember only a few things about Dad, we are sure they will be his great sense of humour, love of jokes, the backyard rinks he made for us, the great stories he told, his compassion, kindness and how fun he was and, of course, the fact that he was the greatest Saskatchewan Roughrider fan in the world! (Or at least in Manitoba)! A funeral service was held on Friday, January 20th, 2012 at Minnedosa United Church with Rev. Natasha Pearen officiating. Internment in Minnedosa Cemetery. Minnedosa Funeral Service in care of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Minnedosa Foundation or a charity of your choice.
