BRYANT: Ada Elder (Riddle) Bryant passed away at Virden Health Centre Thursday; January 19, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Ada had a wonderful, full life. We know this because she would always tell us. Ada had many things that made her life happy, especially her family and fiends. Ada came from England at the age of seven to grow up in Canada. She spent two weeks in quarantine in Halifax and then travelled by train to settle with her parents in Melita, Manitoba. Later, the family moved to Willin, Manitoba. There she and her half brother Henry went to school. Ada attended Elkhorn school in the higher grades and worked and stayed at the Doctors home for room and board. Ada met her husband Charles while waiting for the train that was carrying the Queen of England on her first trip to Canada in 1939. They married in 1941 and farmed in the Elkhorn area. They raised crops, Jersey cows and chickens and three wonderful children. Her first daughter, Linda, was born in 1943, second daughter, Bonnie, was born in 1946 and then her son, Harvey, in 1949. Over the years, she was blessed with four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. They were her most treasured possessions. Mom loved playing cards with her family and neighbors. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading novels. Most of all, she enjoyed her gardens vegetable and many flowers. Before settling on the farm, the family grew up in Elkhorn where Mom worked at Rosss General Store and did housekeeping for a few families in town. The next move in her life was to Virden. She worked at a motel and loved to work at the greenhouse in the springtime, all the while making many trips to the hospital to visit her husband. While in Virden, she discovered yard sales, and going to the Legion to play cards. She also loved having friends and family come to visit. Mom was able to make a trip back to her beloved England in 1975, something that she had always wanted to do. She enjoyed teaching her family all about life. Ada was predeceased by her mother in 1962, her Dad in 1965, her daughter Linda in 1967, her husband Charles in 1978, her daughter Bonnie in 2009 and by her half brother Henry Thompson. Left to mourn is her son, Harvey (Darlene) and their two sons: David (Judy) with their children Lindsay, Adam, Chelsey and Matthew and Don (Cheryl) with their children Courtney and Rhett; son-in-law Keith Creller (husband of the late Bonnie) and their two children: daughter Kellie (Brent) Flannery with their children Alysha (Neil) Blackshaw, Mike (Dawn), Breann (Cory) and Charlie and their son Jason Creller (Terri) and his children Dustin of Calgary and Tianna and their mother Tina of Virden. As well, Ada has seven great-great grandchildren: Kolt, Shane and Julie Blackshaw, Lily and James Flannery, Owen Flannery and Tyson Dobson. Ada will be sadly missed by her family and friends and anyone who knew her. We wish to thank the doctors and nurses at Winkler where she had surgery, and many special thanks to Dr. Roux and the nurses and staff at Virden Health Centre and Palliative Care Unit for taking such wonderful care of our mother, grandmother, great gran and great-great gran.
