HOGELAND: Albert Maurice Hogeland (Hogie); passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side, November 16, 2011 at Erickson Health Centre, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Maurice was born April 19, 1926 at the family farm near McConnell. He was a lifetime employee of the Manitoba Pool elevators, both as a grain buyer and a fire inspector in the Souris area, Inglis, Letellier, and Erickson. After he retired he filled his life taking wonderful care of his wife of 50 years, gardening, helping neighbors and traveling to Alberta to be with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad was an avid sportsman, hunting, fishing, chuckwagon racing, curling , playing both ball and hockey. He is fondly remembered by so many for his stories and sense of humor. He is survived by his children Irene (Monte) Dunn, George (Diane) Hogeland. and Barb Hogeland. His grandchildren Heather Ray, Greg (Ceara) Ray, Pam (Jason) Sahli, Brad Hogeland and Caidan, Dallas and Camryn Fuller, as well as his great grandchildren Samuel, Trystan, Cordell, Nicholas, Kayleigh, Reece, Wyatt and Hunter. He is also survived by his sisters Doris Asselstine, Elizabeth (Shorty) Phillips, Aleta deKeruzec; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Hogie was predeceased by his wife Dot (Armstrong); parents Wilf and Myrtle; step mother Anne; sister Eleanor and brother Wilfrid Douglas. Dot and Hogie were laid to rest together in the Hamiota Cemetery November 22, 2011. The family would like to thank everyone for their generous acts of kindness, food, flowers and monetary donations to the Erickson and District Palliative Care and Cancer Care Manitoba.
