JACQUES: It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Willam Henry (Bill) Jacques in the Virden District Hospital on January 29, 2012 at the age of 84 years, beloved husband of Sonia. Bill was born in Souris Manitoba, on August 9, 1928 to Richard and Beatrice Jacques. Due to the passing of Beatrice at the time of Bill’s birth, he was eventually adopted to Rene and Elizabeth Jacques, who loved Bill with all their hearts. Bill was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his loving wife Sonia, his nieces, nephews, cousins and his brother in law, Bill Yakobobich. Bill met the love of his life Sonia Senkiw, at a dance at the Legion Hall in Virden in 1954. Bill worked for ten winters in logging camps around the Aticokan Ontario area, while he and Sonia stayed in touch. They married in 1964 and began farming in the Sifton district near Oak Lake. While not having any children of their own, Bill and Sonia spent several summers hosting some of their nieces and nephews, which they enjoyed greatly. Bill’s love was farming, most especially, his cattle. Bill and Sonia worked their farm until 1998, retiring to Virden. While Bill may have left the farm, farming never left Bill and after retirement, he ran combines for various friends. Bill and Sonia also enjoyed other activities, including dancing but Bill took special delight in his yard and flower gardens. Sadly, Bill’s health took a downward turn in 2009 when he suffered a stroke. He spent time in and out of hospital, but never lost that spirit that made him so special. A celebration of Bill’s life took place on February 3, 2012 at Carscadden Funeral Chapel, with Father Don Bernhardt officiating. Eulogist was Francis Gillard and reader was Fred Faucher. Sonia would like to thank Dr Roux, who provided such excellent care to Bill and the staff at the Virden District Hospital for their continuing care. Thanks also goes out to the Palliative care volunteers who sat with Bill and provided such wonderful support. A very special thanks goes to Dale Van Loo, for all of the support she provided to Sonia after Bill’s passing. Sonia would like to thank all those who provided loving support by way of flowers, food and prayers for Bill.
