MacDONALD: Malcolm Murray (Mac). It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mac on Feb. 14th, 2012 at the Hamiota District Health Centre after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 53 years Sally (nee Wagenaar), children Lynn (Jeff) Watson, Don (Jane) MacDonald, Janice (Thomas) Heapy, Jason (Susan) MacDonald and his ten grandchildren Daniel, Tylor, Jacob, Travis, John, Kane, Katherine, Tanner, B. Michael & Shayna. He is also survived by his brothers Angus and Donald (Linda), sisters-in-law Connie and Joyce, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mac was predeceased by his parents John Angus and Mary and his twin brothers Kevin and Brian. Born on the family farm in Dunrea Manitoba on October 10, 1931. Mac was a hard worker who loved the farm. Although working the farm was not to be his destiny he did maintain a close ties by working in the grain buying industry. Mac began his life long career with Manitoba Pool Elevators in Foxwarren as an assistant, quickly being promoted to Manager in Cromer, MB. In 1969 after 10 memorable years in Cromer, Mac moved his family to Hamiota, MB which was to become the family’s permanent residence. He later became the manager at Oakner and received many awards and recognitions. Mac was also major contributor to the community volunteering for many different boards or committees, this led to an Honorary Life Membership in the Manitoba Agriculture Society. He also loved to play sports and after spending his younger years playing, he later became involved through coaching his children. The highlight of his coaching career was leading his team to victory in the Provincial Knights of Columbus Tournament in Oak River. Mac was a man who always put his family first and was a man of integrity and honor, he will be missed for his sense of humor and quick wit for which he was so well known for but most of all he will be missed by his family for the love and generosity he always showed us. We loved him dearly. The family would like to thank everyone in the community who helped out in so many ways and a special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses who cared for him at the Hamiota District Hospital. We ask in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his memory to the Hamiota Palliative Care Program c/o Hamiota District Health Centre, Hamiota, Manitoba, R0M 0T0.
