MATIATION: It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Matiation at Brandon Regional Health Centre on February 23, 2012. He was born in Seech Manitoba on August 14, 1928, the second youngest of eight children. Jerry was an elementary school teacher in several communities in Manitoba. After taking his technical training in Winnipeg he accepted a position as electronics technician instructor at Assiniboine Community College in 1966 where he taught until retiring in 1988. Jerry enjoyed golfing, curling, gardening, fishing and spending his summers at his cottage at Otter Lake. He served as secretary- treasurer of the Brandon Curling Club Master league for several years. His proudest moment was a roller coaster ride during a family reunion at Calaway Park, Alberta with children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Anne of 59 years, his children Lynn, Laurie, Norman and Kathy, his grandchildren David, Jeremy, Rebecca, Joshua, Kaleigh and Lukas, his brother Bill of Whitehorse, Yukon and his sister Elsie of Toronto and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jerry’s life was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, February 28 with interment at Rosewood Gardens. Pallbearers were Norman Matiation, David and Jeremy Grice, John Jones, Leonard Matiation, Arnold Zemianski. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Pierson, Dave Speers, Ken Utsunomiya and Roy Walwyn. The family would like to thank everyone in the community who helped out in so many ways this last month while Jerry was in the hospital. Also to Greg Hildebrand and staff at Memories Chapel for their compassionate service. Donations in memory of Jerry may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for the Residence - Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
