NEWTON: Harold George, passed away peacefully February 8th, at the Souris Personal Care Home, at the age of 86. Harold was born in Hartney, August 27th, 1925, He was the fourth son born to Frank and Beulah ( Hatch). He was raised in the Deleau area until his family sold the farm and moved into Souris. Harold never married, but filled his time with his passion for repairing old farm machinery, and car and truck engines too. In his late 30s he ventured away from home to work at various equipment service dealers, ranging from Cockshutt, and Massey Ferguson service to Chrysler/ Dodge dealerships, and after a few short years, returned back home. He had an aptitude for repairing any kind of old farm equipment,, he could weld many things, and took great pride in his contribution to the Heritage Committee in Souris as his welded handrail allowed safe passage to the lovely trail behind The Plum. He also contributed some of his talent to help build some of the beautiful hanging baskets seen hanging from the street light posts of Souris in the summer. He enjoyed entering his old car or tractor in local parades on fair day., and wandering through the old displays. Although a very private and quiet man, he would take part in family Weddings and Reunions, enjoy showing his things to family and friends on a visit., and frequently enjoyed a meal out at any of the local restaurants. His favorite thing was working out in a field with a distressed farmer, he was always most comfortable with a wrench in his hand. A celebration of Harolds life was held at the Kowalchuk Funeral Home , February 13th, in Souris. Private interment will be at the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery at a later date. Harold was predeceased by his parents Frank and Beulah, 1 brother Ken, and 2 sisters in laws, Loraine, and Linda.
