DURNIN: Robert Jory Durnin beloved husband of Shirley and loving father to Kim (Kyle) Jones and Lindsay (Lance) Monych and "Papa" to Kohen Jones passed away in the arms of his family on Wednesday, April 11th, 2012. Bob was bornin Brandon on August 24th, 1951, second son of the late Stan and Florence Durnin. He grew up on a farm just north of Brandon with his brother Jack. Bob and Shirley (nee Warren) were married on November 18, 1972 and from this union two adoring daughters were born. His girls and his puppies were everything to him. Bob started his own construction business in 1978 after purchasing his first loader and tandem truck and learning the ropes from his father. He purchased a gravel pit off of Grand Valley Road and eventually built a shop for all of his belongings that he was so proud of. Due to his health he sold his business in 2001 and then went on to work a couple of years with Sundance Enterprises. Bob's interests included travelling, camping, fishing and reading history, he was always interested in current affairs. He supported and loved watching his daughters in any sport activities with the highlight being the softball days. Travelling andmeeting new friends and acquaintances was also at the top of his list. Some of the simplest things especially family Sunday dinners were a real delight for him. Bob was diagnosed in 1978 with diabetes, which in turn led to kidney failure in 2004. The compassion and care received from Dr. Riche and the Dialysis Staff for eight years was impeccable and for that we are very grateful. As Bob would say they were his "A-TEAM". The Service to Celebrate Bob's Life was held on Wednesday April 18, 2012, at Central United Church with The Ven. Noah Njegovan officiating. Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date in the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 42 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B2 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, B - 727 10th St. Brandon, MB, R7A 4G7.
