FIDLER: Joyce Isabel Fidler (nee Scott) passed away peacefully on May 15, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 31, 1931 in McCreary, Manitoba, the youngest of 8 children born to William and Sarah Scott. Mom was born on her older brother Fred's 10th birthday and at the time he didn't think it was much of a present but over time he grew to like her. As a young girl, Mom attended the Royal Oak School but would often stop off first to visit Grandma & Grandpa Glover; spending the day helping Grandma Glover, as long as they wouldn't tell on her. Mom enjoyed working in various stores throughout her life and often spoke of working in Aunt Annie's store where they enjoyed waiting on some colorful characters. Often these stories would end with "Ollie, I wouldn't blame you a darn bit". Mom was very close to her nieces and nephews and was often more of a big sister, who always had your back. Mom moved to Flin Flon where she met and married Earl Fidler on December 13, 1954. In 1968, they moved to McCreary where they resided for a year. Their journey then took them to Ochre River where they lived until 1975 and at that time they moved to Brandon. Mom took great joy in her family and loved every moment she could spend with them. There was nothing Mom enjoyed more than having her grandchildren and then great grandchildren over. She always said, "they are what keep you young." Mom was called Nan by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as the many people she met in her life. Over the years she knit for her family and everyone had new mitts, afghans, sweaters and scarves. Her favorite place was sitting at the dining room table with family and friends visiting over a pot of tea. There were many nights of 10 pennies with Aunt Ellie, Uncle Jack and Dad where there were many laughs and a few rule changes along the way. Mom worked at various retail stores such as K-Mart and Stephanie's where she made lifelong friends. Throughout her life Mom battled many health problems but she never complained; she just went on with life. Mom could handle many things but the loss of her husband and then a child took its toll on her. After selling her house she moved in with her daughter where she remained until her passing. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Fred (Denise) Fidler, granddaughter Ashley (Jason Schrader) and Dylan all of Brandon; her son Dalton (Irene) Fidler, granddaughters Kayla (Kevin Lamport) and Calcie, Sarah (Barry Hall) and Taylor, Michelle (Scott Major) all of Brandon; her daughter Gail Fidler of Brandon; her son-in law Dennis Black of Oak Lake; granddaughter Candace (Sean Tolton); great grandchildren Brooke, Hanna, Foster and Peyton of Kenton; grandson Shane (Allana Black); great grandchildren Dayton, Kyra, Danica, Kypling, and Beckett all of Brandon; sister Eleanor Klapp and brother Fred of McCreary; sisters-in-law Hazel and Stella Scott of McCreary and Pearl Fieber of Kelowna, BC. Mom was predeceased by her husband Earl in 2006 and daughter Debra in 2010. The ceremony to celebrate Mom's life was held on May 19, 2012 at Memories Chapel with Major Joanne Biggs officiating.
