RICHTER: With great sadness and sorrow we announce the passing of Grant Richter on Thursday, May 31st, 2012 at the age of 57. His death occurred in Winnipeg, MB due to an unexpected brain aneurysm. Grant was predeceased by his mother, Wilma Richter (nee Dyck); and his sisters, Wendy Burnett, and Janet Laing. Grant will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Joanne Richter (nee Kruk) of Brandon; daughter Pam (Derek) Johnson of Winnipeg; son Dustin Richter of Nelson, B.C.; son Cory Richter of Brandon; father Lorne Richter of Melita; mother-in-law Katherine Kruk (nee Posterski) of Portage la Prairie, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Grant was born in Portage la Prairie on February 7, 1955, and he grew up in Melita, MB. He attended Assiniboine Community College (ACC) and Brandon University. He was employed with Corrections Canada for 30 years, and absolutely loved his job. Among his many awards, Grant received the Lieutenant Governor Generals Award/Medal from ACC, and he received an Exemplary Service Award/Medal from Corrections Canada. He married his wife, Joanne, on August 16th, 1980. Grant loved spending time with his family, and he lived his life with extreme passion and to the fullest. He loved hunting, travelling, sports, music, cooking for his family, Toyota vehicles, and the HABS. In keeping with Grant's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of His Life on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon, MB. Pastor Michael Kurtz of First Lutheran Church, Winnipeg will officiate. Reception to follow at the Trails West Motor Inn, 210-18th Street North, Brandon, MB followed by a gathering at Grant and Joanne's home. Flowers are accepted, however, donations may be made in Grant's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba - Brandon Office, 3-824 18th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 5B7. Grant's family has asked that family and friends please write a memory of Grant with your name and how you knew him to be placed in a Memory Box at the service or at the reception.
