HOARE: Robert Hoare. Peacefully, at the Deer Lodge Center in Winnipeg, on June 23, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Bob was born on August 30th, 1923 in Calgary, Alberta where he resided until joining the R.C.A.F. in 1941, serving as a wireless operator until 1945. He then went on to obtain his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Alberta. He was employed as a chemist with the Food and Drug Labs in Ottawa until 1954 and then attended the University of Manitoba where he completed his Ph.D in Biochemistry. In 1958 he began work as a clinical chemist for the province of Manitoba, assuming the position of Provincial Biochemist with MB Dept. of Health in 1959 in Brandon, later transferring to the Cadham Lab in Winnipeg from which he retired in 1983 after 25 yrs. of service. He also taught Biochemistry at Brandon University from 1960-1973. Bob was a founding member of the Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists where he served two terms as National Secretary. Other interests included that of organist for St. Matthews Cathedral Brandon, and St. Andrews Anglican and St. Judes churches in Winnipeg, twenty-five years with Scouts Canada as Scouter, Rover Leader and Assistant Provincial Commissioner. He also enjoyed attending symphony and theatre and curled for many years. Bob loved spending time over the years at the family cottage at Salt Lake, Pelican Lake and most recently Lake Manitoba. In later years Bob was a Lay Reader at St. Andrews Anglican Church and was an original member of St. Andrews Mens club. Bob married Mary Delamater in Oak River, Manitoba in September, 1951. Bob was predeceased by his parents Phoebe and Edwards, his sister Mary, brother Edward, sister in-law Ruth, sister in-law Laura Delamater and brother in-law John Wood. He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Tricia, son Ted (Susan Jewell), grandchildren Ricki- Lee and Brett, sister in-law Iva Wood and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by the staff at Grace Hospital and the Deer Lodge Center during his illness. A private family service will be held in St. Andrews Anglican Church, Winnipeg with burial of cremated remains in St. Andrews Memorial Rose Garden. Flowers and donations are gratefully declined.
