HAYWARD: The peaceful passing of Gwenneth "Gwen" Hayward occurred at her residence, Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Monday, June 11, 2012. Gwen was born on August 1, 1930 to Annie and Prince Arthur "P.A." Smith. She was raised in the east end of Brandon. All of Gwen's schooling was in Brandon from early years to high school. Gwen's work history started at a young age and included waitressing, Reliant Motors, secretary at the Brandon School Division, caregiver for the sick and elderly at Brandon Regional Hospital, lastly Gwen enjoyed volunteering and working for the Y.W.C.A. thrift store. She enjoyed volunteering at both the East End and Central Community Centers. Gwen was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, her secondhome and family for many years. She always enjoyed spending time with her friends in the Brandon Transit Auxiliary Group. Gwen's interests included her home, vegetable garden, flower gardens, yard sales and the Brandon Antique Club where many friends were made. She also loved to cook and bakefor friends and family. Special times for Gwen included her trips to Edmonton to visit family, having family to her home for Sunday suppers and special occasions. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Michael) Cooper, Shelly (Trevor) Beck; grandchildren, Logan Cooper, Cameron and Avery Beck all of Edmonton, AB; son, Craig (Susan); grandchildren, Scott and Kelly of Brandon, MB; sisters-in-law, Irene Smith and Verna Mitchell of Brandon, MB. Many nieces, nephews and close friends also survive. Gwen was predeceased by her husband Robert "Bob", her parents, sister Donnie Poole, niece Lori Poole; brothers Robert Smith, Donald Smith; brothers-in-law Tommy at an early age, Ray, Jack and Tower "Ted" Hayward, Alf Mitchell, Ken McAndrew; sisters-in-law Dot Hayward, Gertie McAndrew, Blondie Smith. A private family interment was held at the Brandon Cemetery with Rev. David Wilson officiating. A Celebration of Gwen's Life was held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Memories Chapel.
