GUSDAL: Orville Erick Gusdal of Brandon passed away on July 11 at the Brandon Regional Health Center at the age of 91. He died peacefully surrounded by his family. Orville was born on February 7, 1921, to Anna (Hall) and Oswald Gusdal and was raised in Erickson, Manitoba. He started farming north of Erickson in 1943 and married Lavina Hodges of Onanole in 1944. He was an avid sportsman and loved to play hockey and baseball during his youth as well as hunt. He left the farm in 1956 and joined Powell Equipment Caterpillar Dealership in Winnipeg as a Sales Rep. He was transferred to Dauphin, The Pas and Brandon (1961). Orville had been an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and served as a Brandon City Councillor. He and his wife, Lavina, were fortunate to be able to travel extensively in Canada and the USA as well as overseas. Orville retired in 1981 and spent several winters in Weslaco, Texas, where he enjoyed playing pool and golfing. During the last 10 years he spent winters at home in Brandon and summers at the farm where he was close to his roots. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Doan. Surviving are his wife Lavina; children Bryan, Sharyn, Curtis; sister Margaret Halvarson; nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. The funeral service will be held July 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church (north of Erickson) with interment following. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethel Historical Society, Box 414, Erickson MB R0J 0P0; Redeemer Lutheran Church, 114 Ashgrove Blvd., Brandon, MB, R7B 1E1 or charity of your choice.
