SAUNDERS: Dorothy Mary passed away suddenly on July 8th at her residence at Rideau Personal Care Home at 91 years of age. Dorothy Mary Sweet was born on October 29, 1920 in Waskada the only child of John and Mary sweet. She also traveled on the trap line with her dad and learned quickly how to skin a fox. One night at a country dance she met Jack Saunders and on September 27, 1946 they were married, worked a small farm near Goodlands where Dorothy did the wifely tasks such as gardening, canning fruit and vegetables, looking after chickens, and cooking meals, baking bread and other delights. One day the Highways Department was doing work close to their farm and Jack went to inquire if they needed help which led to a job for the rest of his career. Because of Jack’s job the family was require to move to Goodlands and then to Alexander and finally in 1967 to Brandon. They had six children during this time Dennis, Brenda, Frances, Vivian, Greg and Bob. Dorothy loved meeting people and was a very hard worker, after moving to Brandon she was a cook at the Beaubier Hotel, The Keystone Hotel and finally at Central Park Lodge until retirement. In her spare time Dorothy sold Avon and Tupperware. As a young woman Dorothy curled and later watched curling on TV as well as her games shows, playing bingo, and going on bus tours, knitting, playing crib, and looking after her pugs were her other enjoyments. She is survived by five children Dennis (Bonnie), Frances (Rick), Vivian (Larry), Greg (Lori), Bob (Kathy) and ten grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and her daughter Brenda (2000), husband Jack (2002). A private family graveside service was held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in care of Brockie Donovan.
