GEORGE: It is with great sadness we announce the loss of our best friend and beloved husband, dad and grandpa, William "Bill" Frederick George, which occurred Saturday, September 1st, 2012 at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Bill was born in Deloraine, MB, the only child of Art and Kathleen George. Bill's father was a dairy farmer and his mother a registered nurse. When Bill was five years old he moved with his family Art, Kathleen and grandparents Fred and Sarah, to Oak Lake where they continued to farm. Bill attended Oak Lake schools. Bill's first jobs were with Don Fuller Trucking at Oak Lake and at Bill Baird's Butcher shop in Virden. Later Bill and his Uncle Harold Johnson worked in the oil fields in Estevan. Bill joined the Brandon City Police Department in 1959. Assigned to the "Traffic Division," riding the police motorcycle was part of his job. Later, Bill worked for the Manitoba Government, Motor Vehicle Branch. Bill was always a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He always greeted everyone with a warm friendly smile and during his careers, he treated everyone with respect and in a sincere and genuine manner. Bill will be remembered for being a very social person and for his humor and quick wit. Bill married the love of his life, Norma and recently celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary. Bill and Norma have one son, Perry, who Bill cherished immensely. Many wonderful times were shared at their cottage at Oak Lake Beach. Bill loved to travel and made sure that every year he took his family on a holiday - B.C. being a favorite. They enjoyed RV travelling and later Bill and Norma discovered flying and car rentals worked well. Many different destinations in Canada and the U.S. were explored. Florida was a favorite. The Florida Keys were great even in July. Bill saw life as a wonderful adventure and loved the great outdoors. He loved all sports and pretty much did them all, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, archery, water skiing with his favorite being motorcycling. Bill and Perry rode many miles together. Bill was a regular participant at local gun and pistol clubs and was a true marksman. He was well read in his hobbies and was well known for his ability to "sight in a gun". The last few years, Bill experienced a number of health issues. Despite all the pain, to Bill everyday was a good day and he lived it with a smile on his face and with a kind and gentle heart. When life's road became more difficult, Bill picked Dinsdale Care Facility to help him along his life's way. Bill appreciated all the love, compassion and wonderful care provided by every staff in every department at Dinsdale, and in turn, all the staff and residents at Dinsdale enjoyed Bill for the person he was. His doctor told him one day that she needed to put him on the payroll because he made everyone's day with his wit, humor and friendliness. He provided wellness and joy to everyone. Predeceased by his parents Art and Kathleen, stepmother Ethel, cousin Jack George and brothers-in-law Olee and Earl Jorgensen. He will be truly missed by his loved ones, wife Norma, son Perry (Judy), granddaughter Kayla, brother-in-law Kris (Gwen) Jorgensen, and sisters-in-law Evelyn Jorgensen and Marie Jorgensen (Elwyn), and his cousins. He is also survived by Norma's nieces and nephews and their families. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon with Major Sharon McDonough officiating. A private family interment will be held at Oak Lake Cemetery. Donations may be made to charity of one's choice. Messages of condolencemay be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
