CASSAN: Elsie Margaret Cassan passed away peacefully at the Hartney Community Health Centre on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, just two months after celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends. Elsie was born at Medora on June 24, 1912 to parents Fred and Mary Warren. Elsie grew up on the family farm and attended Otter School along with many of her cousins. Elsie married Lloyd Cassan in 1938 and together they farmed for 42 years at Medora where they raised their family, Marjorie, Marlene and Keith Cassan. Elsie loved the farm and took pride in her home which was the most welcoming place for family and friends. The tea kettle was always on and freshly baked goodies as well as wonderful meals were enjoyed by all who came to visit. Elsie loved children and would drop whatever she was doing to play with her grandchildren and other little ones. She taught Sunday School classes and she was a faithful worker for the UCW and for the Otter and Medora communities. Elsie and Lloyd moved to Deloraine in 1980 and soon after that Elsie became a compassionate caregiver for Lloyd who lived with Parkinson's Disease. Elsie moved to the Centennial Apartments in 2004 and then in 2007 she moved to the Hartney Community Health Centre where she received the most wonderful care from the staff there. Words are completely inadequate to describe the sincere gratitude of Elsie's family for the loving staff who cared for her during the past five years. Elsie will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her family, daughter Marjorie Nestibo and husband Stan, son Keith Cassan and wife Helen, her grandchildren Shauna (Wayne) Ellison, Karla (Joe) Lasota, Jeff Cassan (Annie), Trent Cassan and Teagan Cassan as well as by her six great-granddaughters Jenna and Brianna Ellison, Kelsey and Kaylee Lasota, Emry and Norah Cassan and by her sister-in-law Hazel Onslow, sister-in-law Vera and husband John Wylie and their families. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Cassan in 1996, her daughter Marlene Ann Cassan in 1962, her parents Fred and Mary Warren, her brother Stuart Warren, her brother-in-law Jack Onslow, sister-in-law Gladys MacMillan and her husband George MacMillan and by her nephew Bruce MacMillan. A celebration of Elsie's life took place on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Medora with Rev. Allan Gairns officiating and with interment at Medora Cemetery. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Medora Cemetery Fund or to a charity of their choice.
