DYCK: Dorcas Rose - After a brief hospitalization, Dorcas Rose Dyck (nee Sercombe) of Portage la Prairie, formerly of Brandon, MB, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2012, at the age of 89. Dorcas is survived by her daughters Carol (Tom) Foster of South Paris, Maine, and Mavis Dyck of Portage la Prairie, MB; sons Earl of Brandon, MB, Wayne (Ruth) of Winnipeg, MB, and Dennis (Dorothy Francisco) of Otisfield, Maine; daughter-in-law Linda Dyck of Brandon, MB; grandchildren Deleah Foster of Greenville, SC, Naomi, Devon, and Sherilyn Foster of South Paris, ME, Dylan (Jessica) Dyck of Brandon, MB, Deanna Dyck (Chad McKinnon) of Rapid City, MB, Timothy, Matthew, Rachel, and Joel Dyck of Winnipeg, MB, Christopher Dyck of Chicago, IL, Amanda Dyck of Jamesville, NY, and Veronica Dyck of Otisfield, Maine; great-grandchildren Brayden and Jordyn McKinnon of Rapid City, MB, and Jacob Dyck of Brandon, MB. Also surviving are sisters Frances Hanna of Gainsborough, SK, Phyllis (George) Lawford of Portage la Prairie, MB, Norma (Aquila) Stamatyades of Toronto, ON, and Muriel (Roy) Beckett of St. Thomas, ON; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dorcas was predeceased by her husband Henry in 2011, her parents John and Rose Sercombe, her sister Esther Bott, and her precious granddaughter, Dana Dyck. Dorcas was born on December 19, 1922, in rural Portage la Prairie, MB. After completing her schooling at Poplar Bluff School, she continued working on her father's farm west of Portage la Prairie. On December 1, 1954, she married Henry Dyck in Portage la Prairie, where she began to raise her young family while Henry worked on the farm and at the Campbell's Soup plant. In 1967 she moved to Brandon with her family, where she resided until 1981 when she and her family moved back to Portage la Prairie. Dorcas fellowshipped with the Christians at the First Street Gospel Hall in Portage la Prairie, where she attended Sunday School and first confessed faith in Christ as a teenager. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Dorcas was an avid gardener, and she took great pleasure from her flower beds and vegetable gardens right up until her death. She delighted in sharing her sweet peas and garden produce with all her family and friends. Dorcas faithfully served her family as a homemaker and committed herself diligently to the challenge of providing care for her disabled daughter Mavis until 2011, when she was no longer able to care for her. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the First Street Gospel Hall, corner of 1st and Lorne Avenue, Portage la Prairie, MB. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Portage Evangelical Church, 72-3rd Street N.E., Portage la Prairie, MB, with interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to PBS Centre, Box 110, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3B2. Arrangements entrusted to Ronald Moffit Memorial Services.
