JONES: Laurence Harvey Jones. On November 19, 2012, Harvey Jones, a true gentleman, passed away after five years residency at Oakview Place in Winnipeg. He was born on April 23, 1917, eldest son of Mattie and Ed Jones. Raised in Regent, Manitoba and educated at West Hill until grade 9, completing grades 10 and 11 by correspondence. Harvey received his BSc degree in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1942. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a radar mechanic, trained at Toronto and graduated with a commission; followed by passage to Britain where he worked in radar until the Wars end. Returning to Canada he was appointed Agricultural Representative in Hamiota. Later moving to Carman with his young family he joined Manitoba Pool Elevators as a Field Rep for the next 13 years. He transferred to the Winnipeg head office in 1963 to organize the newly established Farm Supplies Department. He married Alba Adams, a nurse at Deer Lodge Hospital, in 1946. Harvey and Alba had two wonderful daughters, Donna who passed away May, 1961 at the age of 10 and Margaret who passed away February, 2009. Harveys wife of 60 years predeceased him July 30, 2007. He is survived by his sister Audrey Wannamaker and family of PEI, his brother Les Jones and family of Brandon, Manitoba and the Adams family in Vancouver. The family wishes to thank all the caring staff at Oakview Place for the exceptional care given to Harvey over the past years. A Celebration of Harveys Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28th at Kirkfield Park United Church, 472 Kirkfield Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers a donation in Harveys memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
