GOURLAY: Frederick Gleason Gourlay, formerly of Oak River, MB; passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He was born November 23, 1924 at the Brandon General hospital and raised on the farm in the Oak River District. He was predeceased by his father Andrew (1952) and mother Catherine (1988); brother Allisdair (1930) and brother Robert (1960). He is survived by brother George (Helen) of Ottawa, ON; niece Donna Hawkes (Terry) of Dunrobin, ON; brother Douglas (Audrey) of Brandon; nieces Diane Martel (Mike) of Brandon, Joan Nemetchek (Ed) of Swan River MB; nephews Gerald (Darlene) of Regina SK, Robert (Cheryl) of Moosomin SK; and numerous grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Marie Dereniwsky, 95, who came to help on the family farm in 1932 from Seech, MB and continued to do so for over 77 years, retiring to OakDale Home in Oak River, MB in 2008. Fred attended White Bank Lea country school and then helped on the farm while his older siblings went off to World War II. Subsequently he took over the family farm following the death of his father in 1952 and also his brother Roberts Cardale farm following his accidental death in 1960. Fred enjoyed farming until 2008 when he was forced to retire due to failing health. He moved to Victoria Landing Brandon in 2009 and subsequently Hillcrest Personal Care Home, January 2012. A service to celebrate Freds life will be held at the Cardale United Church, Cardale, MB on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 11:00am with interment to take place at White Bank Lea Cemetery at a later date. For those so desiring, donations may be made in Freds memory to the Cardale United Church Memorial Fund, Cardale, MB, R0K 0J0; Hamiota District Health Centre Foundation, Box 671, Hamiota, MB, R0M 0T0 or to a charity of ones choice.
