ANDREWS: Alice Patricia Andrews (nee Chisholm) was a wife, sister, aunt, relative and a good friend to all she met. Alice was born May 24, 1922 on a farm south of Lafleche, Saskatchewan. She passed away September 4, 2012. Alice was predeceased by her husband Ernest in 2002, her parents Duncan and Myrtle Chisholm, brothers Donald, Melvin, Allister, sister Margaret. Alice is survived by her brother Calvin of Edmonton, numerous nieces and nephews. Alices early education was in Lafleche, Saskatchewan. In 1944 she graduated from the Brandon General Hospital (BGH) School of Nursing and began her nursing profession as a General Duty Nurse at Deloraine Memorial Hospital. In 1945 Mrs. Andrews was appointed Head Nurse at BGH on a surgical ward and later was promoted to Head Nurse on a medical-surgical ward. During this period she was also on private duty at BGH. In 1951 Alice journeyed west to continue her nursing career as General Duty Nurse at the Royal Alexander Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta and at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. Alice returned to Brandon in 1954 as an assistant teacher in the School of Nursing (surgery and orthopedic nursing area). After 2 years in that capacity, her appointment to Evening Supervisor in 1956 followed where she remained until her transfer to Area Coordinator. In 1963 she received her diploma in Nursing Administration which was followed in 1968 by a diploma from the Manitoba Institute of Management. A third diploma was received in 1970 from ACC, Management Development in basic instruction. Alice belonged to several committees and was a member of the Board of Directors of the BGH Credit Union, including a 2 year term as President. In 1953 Alice married Ern Andrews. They were keenly interested in travel and after Alices early retirement in 1978, they visited several foreign countries, with Hawaii being their favorite. Alice, her sister Marg and (Margs) kids would travel to Edmonton and the mountains every year. The nephews still talk about the adventures of those trips and have many fond memories. Alice loved to dress-up and either attend gala dinners or put on her own elaborate dinners. It was often said that there wasnt anything she couldnt cook and do it great. From turkey dinners to Oyster Rockefeller to Flaming Duck La Ronge and oh the cream puffs! Alice and Ern did not have any children of their own; the nieces and nephews were all their kids. For many of us who were involved in sports or others activities we cant forget Alice in the stands as our number 1 cheer leader. It wasnt hard to hear her give her opinion of a call made by an umpire or referee. The family would like to thank the staff of Fairview Home for the care Alice received as a resident.
