LOUGHEED: Elva Irene (Johnson) Lougheed passed away at the Deloraine Hospital, with family by her side on December 18, 2012. Elva was born on the family farm in Winchester Municipality (26-4-22), second daughter of Roscoe and Alice (Robinson) Johnson on Aug. 20, 1919. She attended Regent School, followed by Grade 10 & 11 by correspondence and teacher training at Wesley College in Winnipeg. This education prepared her for her teaching career that began with one year each at Westhall School and Coxworth School and ended at Bidford School when she married Wm. Russel Lougheed on June 30th, 1949 at the Johnson home in Regent, MB. Elva and Russel farmed in the Bidford area on the Lougheed farm where they raised their two sons, Brian and Clare. Retirement brought them to Deloraine where they purchased their home on Lovett St. and spent many happy years enjoying town life and their wonderful neighbours and friends. Elva enjoyed life and found special pleasure in time spent with family, gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, curling, playing piano and organ. Elva adored her great grandchildren, William and Sophie, and took great delight in their visits filled with lively music and dance. She was predeceased by her parents, Roscoe & Alice Johnson; her three sisters and their husbands, Vera (P.A.Jim) Saban; Laureen (Dave) Nickles; Doris (Lorne) Van Mackelbergh. Elva left to cherish her memory husband, Russel Lougheed of Deloraine, MB; sons, Brian (Elaine) Lougheed of Erickson, MB; Clare Lougheed of Winnipeg, MB; grandsons, Colin (Chrissy) Lougheed; Brett (Denise) Lougheed; and Kyle Lougheed; great grandchildren, William & Sophie Lougheed, all of Winnipeg, MB; and friends and family. A service to celebrate Elvas life took place at the Deloraine United Church with Rev. Allan Gairns officiating and internment followed at the family plot in Boissevain cemetery. Smiths Funeral Home were in care of arrangements.
