MacKAY: Gayle Patricia MacKay, widow of the late James Arthur MacKay, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born April 30, 1938 in Brandon, 25 minutes prior to her twin sister Gloria, Gayle was raised at 813-5th Street and attended McLaren School, Earl Haig Jr. High School, Brandon Collegiate Institute, Wheat City Business College. Gayle was a Military wife for thirty-one years starting with her marriage to Jim in 1960 in Brandon and ending with his retirement in 1991 at CFB Shilo. She managed family moves to Germany on two separate occasions, once from 1965-68 and again from 1974-78. Other postings included Calgary from 1978-80, Ottawa 1985-87 and CFB Shilo 1960-65, 1968-74. Her working years included; The Mutual Life of Canada Life as a secretary, CFB Shilo as a clerk, Ministry of Mines and Natural Resources in Calgary and receptionist for Dr. Gerald Dressler, Optometrist until her retirement. Gayle was involved with various organizations including; Shilo Ladies Luncheon Club, Stanley Park Lawn Bowling, St. Augustines Volunteer for Fairview Nursing Home Masses. She enjoyed golfing at Northern Pines with her friends and assisting the St. Augustines Catholic Womens League with Funeral luncheon preparation. Gayle is survived by her only son, James; twin sister Gloria Joy; brother-in-law Paul Parkolub; Sisters-in-law Evelyn MacKay, Rosaria Roverro; brother-in-law Frank MacKay; nieces Dawn, Joanne, Leslee (husband Robert Lavin); nephews Kevin, Scott, Robbie, and Randy MacKay, Jimmie and Johnnie Hatfield and her special little flower, great niece Alyssa Lavin. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2004. Prayers will be said at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church, 327 - 4th Street, on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Jorge Mante as celebrant. Pallbearers will be: Cameron Ballance, Ray Bourassa, Gordon Brooks, Robert Lavin, Paul Parkolub and James MacKay. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Gayle may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB R7A 2W8 or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o 327-4th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 3H1.
