BRANDON: It is with sadness the family of Larnold James Brandon, of Rivers, announce that his death occurred on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Riverdale Health Centre, Rivers. Born September 24, 1940 at Hamiota, Manitoba, Larnolds early years began in Oak River and then Rivers, Manitoba; attending school in Rivers and Brooke High School at Rivers Air Base. When he was young, Larnold spent a great deal of time playing baseball and was a member of the Rivers Comets, which was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012. This made Larnold extremely proud. Larnold spent 10 years with the Air Force as an airframe technician. He married Jo Ann Taylor in 1965 and subsequently moved to Winnipeg, returning to Rivers in 1969 to raise a family and manage Taylors family hardware store. Outside managing the hardware and running his furniture store, Larnolds life revolved around family, church and community activities that included the Kiwanis Club, Rivers Handivan Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, being a member of the Legion and was active in Rivers United Church on a variety of committees. Larnold loved to dance, snowmobile, curled in the mixed league for many years, coached minor baseball, liked watching sports on TV (especially the Toronto Blue Jays), enjoyed hunting and fishing, and being at the cottage. He was a gentle, patient, and kind man and this was reflected in the messages of condolence from friends and the community. During his long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Larnold never complained and showed courage, control and determination along with an acceptance of each stage of the disease. Always more concerned with how others were doing or managing, Larnold was always good when asked how he was. Larnold is survived by his wife Jo Ann; two sons Michael (Chris) and Chris; sister Myrna (Yvon); brother Allen (Sharon), mother-in-law, Margaret Taylor, as well as sister-in-law and brother-in-law Richard and Sandra Wade. He was predeceased by his father Wesley Brandon; mother Elizabeth (Bessie) Brandon, and brother Daryl Brandon. A celebration of Larnolds life was held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Rivers United Church followed by a gathering at Rivers Legion Hall. Memorial Donations in Larnolds name may be made to the Adult Day program at Riverdale Personal Care Home, Rivers Recreational Complex, or the Manitoba MS Society. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
