ERSKINE: It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Robert Stanley Bob Erskine following sudden illness on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the age of 83 years. Born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on January 6, 1930 to John Jack and Alice (nee Hewitt), he was the second son of five boys. Bob met and married his school sweetheart Bernice Lange in 1949. They soon moved to Brandon where he obtained his carpentry papers and started his career. He worked hard at his profession and was proud of all the projects he did. Bob was held in high regard by the construction firms and respected by his peers. As hard as he worked, he also played hard. He had many interests in sports during his life and as a young man he raced stockcars. Bob was a founding member of the Riverview Curling Club and coached baseball for many years in the Youth Softball League. Bob was a long time fan and supporter of the Brandon Wheat Kings and had season tickets every year. He spent many hours with his children and grandchildren playing road hockey, climbing hills on his ATV, exploring nature and fishing. He was very proud to have accomplished his Master Anglers certificate. He loved nature and the outdoors and had great knowledge and insight that he loved to share with his grandchildren, who were always astounded by his wisdom. He made everything into an adventure. He also loved his garden and turned it into a competitive sport with family members by challenging who would be the first to eat salad every year. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Bernice; daughters Linda (Eldon) Baker, Alyne Haugen, Dianne (Walter) Jacobson; four grandchildren: Rob (Taryn), Rick, Cherie (Peter), and Kristen; four great grandchildren: Breklyn, Baron, Mira, and Emily; two brothers Glenn (Shirley) and Barrie (Marlene) as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Alice in 1981; father Jack in 1987 and two brothers Gordon and Russell. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Rev. Wayne Sanderson of Trinity United Church officiated. Pallbearers were sons-in-law Eldon and Walter; Grandsons Rob, Rick and Peter and fishing buddy Don Kotz. Interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Robert may be made to a charity of choice.Forever in our Hearts.
