McKAY: Kathleen Joyce passed away peacefully at Boissevain Health Center with her family by her side on May 6, 2013 at the age of 79. Kathleen was born February 6, 1934 in Elgin, Manitoba. Kathy was raised on a small family farm in the Killarney district where she met her husband Ralph. They were married in 1949 and started raising a family. They continued to farm in the Killarney area until the early 1960s when they moved to a farm in the Boissevain area. Kathy enjoyed the farm, especially the cattle and spent many hours working with them. Moms favourite cow was Cookie. Mom also enjoyed helping with the harvest, hauling in the grain and working in the shop with Dad building corral panels, trailers etc. in the winter. It was a sad day when they sold the farm in 1988 and moved into town, but she enjoyed her newer house in Boissevain and looking after her lawn and beautiful flowers. The lawn had to be cut in one day so it looked all the same. Mom also had to get the flowers early to get the best selection and would spend many hours moving them in and out of the garage to keep them from freezing. Mom also enjoyed showing her many picture albums to anyone that came to visit. After her husband passed away in 2000, she continued to look after the yard and flowers, but because she did not have a drivers license, Mom purchased a scooter to keep her independence. Mom really enjoyed her scooter, and could be seen driving it around town on any given day. Mom was looking forward to getting her scooter out for this summer. Mom enjoyed babysitting some of the neighbours kids and treated them as her own. Mom loved being around kids. Mom always enjoyed company from family and friends. Kathy enjoyed travelling out west to see her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mom will always be remembered for her thoughtfulness, many hugs, and always being able to put together a meal at the last minute. Kathy was predeceased by her mother Ida and father John, Kathys husband Ralph and her brothers Bob & Kelly Whittingham. Kathy leaves to mourn her six children Doug (Delphene), Ken (Shelley), Les (Tracy), Debbie (Ed) Goodon, Patsy (John) Kirk, Murray (Karen). Her grandchildren Bill, Tammy, Lisa, Loralee, Jacquie, Jarrod, Angela, Jamie, Pam, Trish, Laura, Rachael, & Rebecca and her many great grandchildren. Kathy is also survived by her sister Marion Yates and brother Brian Whittingham. The funeral service was held at St. Paul United Church in Boissevain on Saturday May 11,2013 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Milo Spooner Craig officiating. Pallbearers were Rob Cuvelier, Gord Cuvelier, Blair Tripp, Pete Penner, Glen Kentner, Alan Sheirlinck.
