HAMILTON: John Scott Jack Hamilton passed away at Glenboro Hospital on June 10, 2013 at the age of 81. Jack was born in Glenboro Manitoba on Sept 23, 1931 to parents Jim and Elizabeth (nee Scott), a twin to his late sister Isobel. He grew up in Hawkins District, attending Hawkins and Glenboro Schools. The Hamilton family consisted of 8 children who enjoyed farm life, family visits and lots of sports. Jacks dad died at the age of 56, leaving a young family who all grew up on the family farm operated by Jacks eldest brother Mervyn. Jack attended Brandon Agricultural College in 1952- 53, and completed an Agricultural Diploma at U of Manitoba in 1954. Jack and Eleanor (Wallis) were married in 1955, and raised four children: Scott, Jackie, Gerry and Cam. Jack worked at a variety of jobs including Einarsons Seeds, the R.M. of South Cypress, the Interprovincial Pipeline in both Glenboro and Regina, and as the manager of the Glenboro Co-Op lumber yard. Jack was also a plumber and carpenter, building several houses in the community. In 1972 Jack and Eleanor purchased the Steel farm, and later the Wayte farm, in the Fairvalley District. They remained on the farm until 1993 when they moved to a new home in Glenboro. Jack continued to farm in partnership with his youngest son Cam until his death. Jack enjoyed baseball, hockey and curling, and spent many a fall evening in the hunting cabin enjoying the companionship of friends and family. He coached many hockey and baseball teams, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, receiving his 50 Year Jewel in 2005. He enjoyed 27 years as a Councillor with the R.M of South Cypress. He was a member of the Glenboro United Church, serving on the board, the Glenboro Curling Club, the Glenboro Area Foundation, the Tiger Hills Conservation District, and the Glenboro Agricultural Society. Jack leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Eleanor, son Scott & wife Beverly of Thunder Bay Ont., daughter Jackie & husband Dale Brooks of Hamiota MB, son Cam & wife Shelley of Glenboro; seven grandchildren Katherine, Christopher, Alanna, Travis (Marisa), Ryan, Andrea & Liam; brothers Rae (Glen) of Toronto Ont., Dwayne (Lorna) of Glenboro, sisters Betty (Doug) Jobbins of Melita MB & Janice Stephens of Paget Bermuda, as well as numerous nieces, nephews & friends. Jack was predeceased by son Gerry (1990), parents Jim & Elizabeth, brother Mervyn, sisters Joyce Johnson & Isobel Fairgrieve & by brothers-in-law Bob Johnson, Bruce Fairgrieve, Roy Wallis, George Wallis & Richard Stephens. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 15, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Glenboro United Church with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Interment to follow in the Glenboro Cemetery.
