HUNT: Albert Francis (Bert) December 1, 1938 - July 18, 2013. It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Bert at aged 74. Bert died peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria BC after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 52 years, Mary. They were an inseparable couple. Bert is also survived by his sons Rodney and Richard, daughter-in-law Marla, and grandchildren, Jennifer and Tyler. Bert was born in Hartney, Manitoba on December 1, 1938 to Kathleen and Robert Hunt. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Brian, and survived by his brothers Bob and Bill, and sister Doreen. Bert had a richly social and rewarding career, and he worked with many people for whom he remained fond throughout his life. He was trained as a Psychiatric Nurse through the Ministry of Health in Brandon. Bert worked at Brandon Mental Health Centre as a psychiatric nurse and nurse supervisor from the time of his graduation in August 1962 until June 1973 when he moved his family to Victoria. In Victoria, Bert worked as Administrator of Resident Services and as a member of the Executive Management Team at Glendale Lodge for 23 years before retiring in 1996. He is remembered for the supportive relationships he fostered with and between work colleagues, service providers and residents in direct care, community facilities, volunteer groups, and government agencies. Bert maintained many of his valued work and community connections in his retirement through his association with Kardel Consulting Services -- a retirement that was perfectly suited for a man who loved his work. At home, one of Bert's favorite pastimes was his garden, where he loved to watch and photograph birds. Bert also liked camping. More than anything, Bert loved his grandchildren, and together with Mary, he enjoyed hours of pleasure cheering them on at their sporting events. Bert was a kind and generous man with a gentle character. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and dear friend. He will be missed. Berts spirit will live on forever in our hearts and memories. A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 10:00 am, at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, http://www.victoriahospice.org/
