ANDREW: Lloyd Elmer Andrew. It is with great sadness the family announces the death of Lloyd Elmer Andrew on July 11, 2013 at the age of 83. Lloyd was born in Plumas, MB on May 21, 1930. In 1931 the family moved from Plumas to Rapid City, MB. Lloyd started his education at Tremaine District School and continued high school in Rapid City. After hitching a ride with a talkative lineman, Lloyd decided a career with Manitoba Hydro (MH) was perfect for him. That lineman steered Lloyd into a career in electrical construction. Lloyd was hired as a labourer in MHs rural electrification program in the 1950s, eventually receiving his journeyman certification. Lloyd was working for MH when the chimney at Brandons 10th Street Station collapsed. In fact his desk was destroyed in that accident. Fortunately he hadnt been stuck in the office doing paperwork that day. After leaving MH he continued in the electrical field working out of the IBEW union hall based in Edmonton. He worked most of the big projects in Alberta but the one he talked most about was the Syncrude mega project in Fort MacMurray. Lloyd had a memory like an elephant for all the stats; how much horsepower that motor had, or how tall the flare stack was, etc. Lloyds interests were many and varied. He attained his pilots license and enjoyed flying in his younger days. He was an avid coin collector and passed that tradition on to his nieces and nephews by giving gifts of coins on their birthdays or graduations. He enjoyed playing the stock market but stuck with companies he knew something about. Lloyd would say that a particular company was a good bet because he knew the CEO personally. Lloyd would give a stock recommendation to anyone who would listen; he would talk for hours about the latest trend or stock in the oil patch that week. Lloyds greatest passion was reading. His library (every flat surface in his home) consisted of reading material of every description; books and magazines about coins, rock collecting, gardening and mushrooms were all in his collection. Reading the newspaper was his daily ritual and treat to himself. Lloyd is survived by his sister Avis Nielsen, from Brampton ON, his brother in law Richard Kuntz, from Brantford, ON and his sister in law Bette Hyndman from Rapid City, MB. Lloyd will be missed his many nieces and nephews including his newest great great niece, Riya Belcher. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Sydney and Julia, his brothers Gordon, Ken, Ray, Cecil and his sister Irene Kuntz. Cremation has taken place and his remains will be buried, as per Lloyds wishes, with his parents and siblings in the family plot at Rapid City, MB. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 on August 12, 2013 at Rapid City United Church. Internment will take place immediately following at the Rapid City cemetery. Donations can be made in Lloyds memory to the Rapid City United Church Memorial Fund, Box 190, Rapid City, MB, R0K 1W0.
