MARTIN: Mary “Moira” Hunter McDougall Montgomery Martin, 79 years old, resident of Killarney, MB passed away on Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 in the Tri-Lake Health Care Center from natural causes after a long 39 year battle with Polymyositis. Born on March 1st, 1934 in the District of Renton, County of Dumbarton, Scotland to parents, Thomas Wilkinson Montgomery and Mary McDougall Montgomery. She married Kenneth Clare Martin on June 25th, 1960. They spent 35 years of marriage before Ken’s passing on May 7, 1996. She attended school in Scotland completing all grades to graduation with high honors. After completing school she was employed while attending nights classes to work as a secretary. Mary held many secretarial positions in Manitoba including Bristol Aerospace in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a few different positions in Boissevain and Killarney in Agriculture and then in Killarney at the Tri Lake Health Center until her early retirement due to medical reasons. Mary traveled to Canada from Scotland via (boat) with her sister Helen, brother-in-law John and nephew Alan McCoshan. As a child Mary lived in Scotland until her 19th birthday, only returning once back home to visit her parents. Upon arrival to Canada, Mary, along with her husband Ken, resided in Winnipeg, Boissevain, and Killarney. Mary was involved in the Royal Purple, an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football team and loved to watch her only grandson, Brandan Sunaert, play hockey. She spent many years following Ken play and coach many sports such as baseball, hockey, and curling. She also enjoyed playing the piano and singing with friends. In her high school years she did participate in field hockey. She also volunteered as secretary for many organizations. For five years, 1990-1995, Mary and her husband Ken operated and owned the Great Oaks Restaurant with help from their family. She especially enjoyed weekends with the Don and Betty Challner family every weekend playing cards. Survived by her two children, Greg Martin of Killarney, MB, Kate Sunaert and special friend Rodney Halvorson of Rugby, ND, one grandson, Brandan Sunaert, and special close family friend, Terry Fairhall of Brandon, MB, nephew Alan (Shirley) McCoshan, children Michael and Kristy of Calgary, AB, niece Sandra and (Wes) Marceniuk, child Jessica of Calgary, AB, niece Susan and (Greg) Kost, children Marisa and Kiera of Winnipeg, MB. Predeceased by her husband Kenneth Martin, brother Gavin, England, sisters Margaret, Scotland, and Helen, Winnipeg. Private family graveside service had taken place on June 29th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Margaret Cemetery, Margaret, MB, laid to rest alongside her husband Ken.
