BOUCHER: Valerie Boucher May 2, 1959 – August 11, 2013. Valerie Boucher of Brandon, Manitoba, passed on at the Brandon Assiniboine Centre on Sunday morning, August 11, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones. She died at the age of 54 of cancer. Valerie was born on May 2, 1959 in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Clarence and Lil Carter. The family moved to Onanole in 1961. She grew up in Onanole with her parents Clarence and Lillian Carter and siblings: Kurtis, Grant and Cathy. She attended Onanole Elementary School and Erickson Collegiate Institute. She later attended Herzig Institute in Winnipeg and began working in the medical field. She married Edward Boucher in 1979. They moved to Thompson, MB where she worked with the Federal Government. While in Thompson, Valerie had her first child, Shawna Lee in May of 1984. Val and Ed moved to Winnipeg in 1987 where they bought their home on Jefferson Avnuee and had their second child, Troy Carter in September of 1988. In 2002 Val and children then moved to Prince George, B.C. where she continued to work for the Federal Government. After spending eight years in B.C Val and her children moved back to Brandon in 2002. Val’s love was her family, her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was always happy to open her doors to anyone who dropped in. She loved the family gatherings, holidays and would feed the neighborhood kids with a huge smile on her face. Her home was filled with family pictures, kids drawings and memorabilia. Truly a warm and comfortable place. Val had a passion for gardening, and was creative with her sewing. She was active in the community, volunteering for everything from Cub Scouts, Community gardens, Mental Health Society, Salvation Army and anything that her children were involved in. She met every opportunity with warmth and humor and met everyone with smiles and laughter. Val was afflicted with Huntington’s Chorea and joined in with the local support group to gain information, wrote many articles and spoke at conferences to further educate others. She joined the Huntington’s research team in Winnipeg and was a participant in new treatments. She was an inspiration and will be dearly missed by all who shared her life especially her daughter Shawna McCorquodale of Boissevain and her son Troy Boucher of Brandon. A memorial service will be held Monday September 2nd 2013 at 1:00pm in her home town of Onanole Manitoba at the recreation center.
