HICKS: Gerald. Gerald passed away July 25, 2013 at Virden, Manitoba. He was born November 26, 1938 to Roy and Margaret Hicks growing up on their farm near Lauder. He attended school at Grand Bend, Melgund and Lauder. In 1976 Gerald purchased a mobile home and enjoyed the winters in Hartney with his parents for many years. After Roys passing Gerald built a new home in Hartney that he shared with his mother until she passed in 1997. Gerald was employed by the Hartney Coop for many years and in his retirement he was a committed volunteer at the recycling depot in town. Gerald always took pride in his garden, flowers and yard and continued to care for the family farm site spending countless hours preparing the yard for a family wedding in 2009. He loved family gatherings and quietly in the background was always ready with his camera. Gerald loved to golf and curl and he proudly displayed his trophies in his home. He attended many curling events in Brandon and his television was always tuned to the games. Uncle Gerald loved Christmas and enjoyed decorating his house for the season. He must have had a part time job as one of Santas elves as his presents under the tree were always signed by Santa. Gerald was predeceased by parents Roy and Margaret (Casselman) Hicks and great nephew Jason MacKenzie. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Hicks (Lorne Greenwood) Markdale, Ontario; brother, Clare (Betty) Hicks Virden, Manitoba. Gerald, fondly known as Unclewill be missed by his nieces and nephews: Kim (Graham) MacKenzie, their sons: Derek (Eva) and Cole, Gavin (Cheryl) and children Rylee and Luke, Jasons daughter, Sarah; Jacqueline Hicks, Morley (Donna) Hicks, Lisa Hicks, Ryan (Sara) Hicks, Tanya Hicks, Marla (Alan) Wilson and sons Coyle, Dalton and Leif; Brendan (Trisha) Hicks and sons Lincoln and Carson. Uncle Harold Casselman, Aunts Mime Westcott and Aileen Falconer and many cousins. A service was held in Lauder Community Hall on July 30, Rev. Ralph Clark officiated. Pallbearers: Wesley Phillips, Murray Phillips, Eldon Ramsey, Don Clarke, Terry Thomas and Lionel Martin. Donations to the Lauder Cemetery Fund or a charity of your choice.
