EGGLETON: Irwin Gilbert Eggie Eggleton, beloved husband of Gwenn and dear father of Marilyn and Janette, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2013 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Irwin was born on October 14, 1920 in Brandon. Following the passing of his mother five days later, Irwin was raised by his grandparents. He met his future wife, Gwendolyn Winnifred Ober on August 28, 1933. Gwenn was born on the same day and year in Brandon and their birth announcements were in the same newspaper. They were married in Vancouver on December 23, 1942. Irwin had enlisted with the Armed Forces, wanting to be a paratrooper, but was assigned to Army Engineers. His enlisted time in Canada was served primarily in British Columbia. Gwenn moved with him on his several postings before serving overseas. While overseas, Gwenn and their first daughter, Marilyn returned to Brandon. On his return in 1945, Irwin enrolled in a carpentry course and following graduation as a cabinet maker, gained employment with Frank Lissaman who owned a contracting business in Brandon. Irwin was employed with Mr. Lissaman for twenty years. Following this time, he then worked at Brandon University for the next twenty years before retiring. Irwin was a member of the Elks Lodge and helped with construction of the Lodge on Eighteenth Street North. He also enjoyed hunting, bowling and cribbage at the Legion with his friend, Wally. He and Gwenn enjoyed travelling, five trips to Lahr, Germany to visit family. In later years, Irwin enjoyed visiting friends at Fairview Home and jig saw puzzles. He leaves his beloved wife Gwenn. They celebrated their Seventieth Wedding Anniversary, December 2012 and their ninety-third birthdays this past October 14th. He leaves his two daughters: Marilyn (Ronn) Anderson and their children; Eroca Anderson and fiancé Ryan McKay, Bart Anderson, Bryan Anderson and wife Rosemari; Janette (Garry) Haverstock and their children, Chris (Pam), Kyla (Greg) Boulet. There are eight great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren. Irwin is also survived by two sisters-in-law; Marg Eggleton and Valda Eggleton and her family and nephew Larry Ober. He leaves his coffee friends, Wally and Jac and special friends: Ron and Gay Metcalfe, Gayle and Richard Wray; Greg, Tim, David, Pauline, Chris Keenan and their families; also Arlene Saito and Myrna Vercaigne. There are many other special friends. Irwin was predeceased by three brothers; Charles, Robert, Earl and a sister Mae. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
