MICHALUK: Joseph Louis Michaluk, of Brandon, formerly of Thompson and Grandview, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He was born on May 9, 1940 at the family farm in Keld, Manitoba. At a young age, Joseph and his family moved to Grandview District. He attended Valley River Elementary School and Grandview High School, however his high school years were short lived as he decided he would be more useful working. Joseph started in the work force at about 15 years old as a heavy equipment operator working for his brother-in-law Andy Symbalisty, then Jack Lawson in the Grandview area. Relocating to Thompson, Joseph once again worked for Andy Symbalisty and eventually got a position with the Department of Highways where he had an exemplary work record with 31 years in. Josephs greatest achievement was his children and he took great pride in the success of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joseph had a huge interest in gardening and keeping the variety of wildlife out of his garden. Other interests consist of reading, which included everything from newspapers to magazines and books and he also enjoyed watching sports on television. Playing the computer was another pastime for Joseph. His newest discovery was facebook and he loved to stay connected to all of his family and friends. Left to cherish Josephs memory are his wife Doris (nee Lukey); son Kenneth (Heather), grandsons Trevor and Matthew, great grandchildren Keaton and Madison; son Barry; daughter Kimberley; daughter Lorise Cablik (Anton), grandsons Tony and Luke. He was predeceased by his parents Adam Michaluk and Nellie Michaluk (nee Goshulak), father-in-law Metro Lukey, brothers Frank Michaluk and Stanly Michaluk and brother-in-law Andrew Symbalisty. The Ceremony to Celebrate Josephs Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Arlene Robertson will officiate. All in attendance are considered honorary bearers. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Joseph may be made to a charity of choice.
