CROSSON: With heavy hearts the family of Kathryn Jane Janie Crosson announce her passing at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, December 12, 2013 with her children at her side. Jane was born in Swan River, Manitoba at Mrs. Jollys Nursing Home on April 28, 1931 to Jack and Alline Silverthorn. She received her education in Bowsman, Winnipeg and Swan River and went on to receive her teaching certificate at Provincial Normal School, Winnipeg in 1951. Upon graduation, she accepted a teaching position in Manson, Manitoba. While participating in a bonspiel she met her future husband, Don Crosson and they were married July 2, 1955 at The First United Church in Brandon. They lived in the Manson area until Don accepted an assistant management position in Justice with Manitoba Pool Elevators. Jane was a substitute teacher from 1958 - 1980 with Justice and Forrest schools. Jane was very active in the community, she was a member of Justice United Church, UCW, Justice Community Club and Justice Curling Club. Jane would volunteer at most events in this close knit community such as weddings, funerals, showers and fowl suppers. She had many talents and just to name a few she was a skilled seamstress and would sew for woman in the community, enjoyed knitting, painting, gardening and bowling. Janes favourite sport was curling and she competed in many bonspiels in Justice and surrounding area. She also had a talent for drafting curling draws and did so for many of the Justice bonspiels. In later years her passion for curling continued and she followed the mens and womens competitive curling events and could name the players off of any rink. The last competition she watched was the recent mens and womens Olympic Trials in which she was satisfied with the results. In 1988, Don retired and they moved to Brandon. Don and Jane purchased a cottage at Sportsman Park near Clear Lake and many happy times were spent with family and friends at the cottage. In later years Jane embraced the computer era and quickly connected with people she had not heard from in years and enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends on a regular basis. She loved her ipad and was a faithful 'Words with Friends" player and was able to keep an eye on what her grandchildren were up to. She was particularly proud to be able to keep the family updated on the stats of her granddaughter, Teals hockey team. Jane had many health obstacles over the years, but you never heard her complain. She accepted the hand she was dealt and went about her days in a very positive way. Surviving are: Kelly (Shirley) Crosson, Myrna (Brian) Knapp; grandchildren: Cody (Kaley), Teal and Sara and great-grandson's Cole and Carter. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Phyllis Crosson and Jean Backlin; brothers-in-law Jim Crosson and Howard Frape as well as many nieces and nephews. Jane was predeceased by her husband Don, her parents Jack and Alline Silverthorn, siblings Dale and Glen and wife Mary, and Jacqueline, husband Pat. A Ceremony to Celebrate Janes Life will be held at Memories Chapel, Saturday, December 21, 2013 (TODAY) at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Gerry Harms will officiate.
