BURNETT: Ronald John Jack Burnett, of Riverheights Terrace and formerly of Binscarth passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, December 21, 2013. Born September 30, 1926 in the R.M. of Brenda, Jack lived on the family farm until 1933 when the family moved to a farm north of Binscarth. He started his schooling at Purple Hill School, then finished his schooling at Binscarth School. Jack farmed with his father, and then spent eight months in the Ninette Sanatorium with tuberculosis, then farmed alone and finally with his son Ken, whom he sold the farm to in 1989. After farming, Jack worked as a crop adjuster and finally for Manitoba Indian Agriculture. He also sold geothermal furnaces. He built a house in Binscarth and the family moved into town during the fall of 1989. Always one to keep busy, Jack belonged to the Binscarth Curling Club and the Binscarth and Birtle Golf Clubs. He was a member of the Binscarth Knox United Church where he was an elder and member of the property committee. Jack was also the local secretary for Manitoba Pool Elevators. As a youth, Jack was a member of 4H and Air Cadets. Jack played hockey at Binscarth and Foxwarren and was a long time curler. Later in life, he enjoyed golfing and appreciated the many friends and acquaintances he made and met through curling and golf. Jack married Margaret Allerton in 1957 and they were blessed with three children; Bruce, Ken and Sheila. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret, sons Bruce (Heather), Ken (Deb) and daughter Sheila; grandchildren: Alexandra, Laura and Brody Burnett, Rachael Patterson; sisters Eva (Cliff) Tetzlaff and Elnore (Gary) Goral; sisters-in-law Eva (Cliff) Taylor as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Ethel Burnett (Phizacklea) in 1987, father William Burnett in 1991, brothers George in 1923 and Melvin in 1979 and sister Helen Hagglund in 1986. A graveside ceremony will be held at a later date at the Binscarth Cemetery.
