BROWN: John Allan Brown died peacefully at his residence in Brandon on Monday, December 30, 2013. Born April 14, 1926 at Brandon, MB, Allan was the youngest of four sons of Robert Petrie Brown and Jean Murray. Allan was predeceased by his father Robert, mother Jean, an infant brother Robert, brothers Marshall and James, brothers-in-law Ben Wilson, Hugh, Robert and Tom Templeton as well as sister-in-law Elsie Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Florence, his daughter Linda Creighton, and son Robert Bob and his wife Sandy, his grandchildren Riley, Tyler and Brett Creighton and Allan Ali Brown, sisters- in-law Estella Brown, Margaret, Gertie and Olive Templeton as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Allan grew up in Griswold, Manitoba until the age of three when the family moved to Glencarnock Stock Farm in the rural municipality of Cornwallis, Brandon, MB, his residence until his passing. Allan attended Cornwallis School and attained his grade 11 at Brandon College Institute. At this time he worked on the farm alongside his father and brothers. In later years, Allan farmed with brother Marshall and son Bob in the dairy, beef and grain industry. It was in the early 1950s that Allan met Florence Milne at a hockey game in the old Wheat City Arena. They were married November 6, 1954 in Brandons St. Pauls United Church, now Central United. Allan and Florence raised two children, Linda and Bob. They were always out at the barn with their dad helping do chores and playing with the numerous cats and family dogs that Allan loved so dearly. Every one of those animals was his friend. Many times the family went on snowmobile outings as well as Sunday trips in the summer to the north shore of Clear Lake to swim, boat and ski with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing excursions with his brothers, relatives and neighbours. Before and after all the fun was had on these special times, work on the farm was always there. His dry, witty sense of humour, his love of garlic and his passion for Kraft Russian salad dressing will be fondly remembered. Allans holidays were few and far between but after a lot of convincing he travelled with Florence to Fort McMurray, Alberta for moose hunting with relatives and friends. These were some of Allans times out with nature. Allan faithfully followed the Brandon Wheat Kings, attending the games with his family or later on tuning into the action on the radio. His love for country and old time music was always apparent as he listened to CKLQ in the barn milking cows or in his easy chair on Sunday evenings. Allan lived a full life the way he wanted it to be; on the farm with his wife and family by his side. The Ceremony to Celebrate Allans Life was held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Central United Church with Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Riley, Tyler, Brett and Allan, nephew Jim Brown and family friend Gregg Lacey. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Allan may be made to the Arthritis Society, Suite 105, 386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6 or to a charity of choice.
